No 600: Real Wedding: Rose and Brendan

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

When I was growing up, I played a lot of make-believe; it was way more fun than video games, and much more interesting than the swings. Besides, if everything else failed, you could always throw a tea party. My delicate, rose-printed china set was a tribute to girlhood, and my guests always enjoyed the most delicious (imaginary) sandwiches-in short, my tea parties were legend. So when I saw Rose and Brendan's incredible wedding on Style Me Pretty, the 6 year old inside me came back to life!

Rose dreamed of a 1940's tea dance, set in the beautiful English countryside, and she and Brendan were married at Larmer Tree Garden in Dorset in what is arguably the year's most beautiful wedding. Before the ceremony, Rose and her bridesmaids dressed at the lovely Launceston Farm, giving them the opportunity to spend some wonderful time together, and their photographer, Marianne Taylor, the chance to take some jaw-dropping photos.

The bride's magical gown and veil were from Pronovias, but weren't easy to find. Rose said she searched for months for a Spanish-style gown, but struggled to find something without yards of fabric. This courageous bride ended up ordering the gown before seeing it, but who wouldn't have fallen in love with Swiss dotted tulle and cotton lace, decorated the lovely grosgrain ribbon? She paired the gown with nude patent leather Louboutin pumps and a beaded bag, purchased at the last minute from Monsoon Bridal.

This fashionable bride imagined her 'maids in day dresses, and found them at UK favorite Topshop; they added net underskirts to these vintage-inspired dresses to give them a little extra volume. Rose made the girls' fascinators with goodies from the Trimming Company, and bought shoes at New Look. The groom's suit was from Topman, and groomsmen dressed in their own black suits to match. River Island provided Brendan's shirt and brogues, which had roses carved into the leather soles.

Only fourteen guests joined Rose and Brendan, which allowed the newlyweds to pay special attention to each guest. Rose collected mercury glass, candelabras, cut glass vases, candle sticks, bowls and ornaments from vintage and antique shops in places with magical names like Devon, Cornwall and Woodside. Garden flowers were simply arranged by the bride's mother, and were provided by Petals Florist. Rose is a designer/illustrator, so it surprised no one that she created the lovely invitations, mixing formal elements like calligraphy with beautiful scroll details.

After the intimate ceremony (where can I find a little house like that?) and a stroll with the property's prize peacock, guests enjoyed sandwichs, hors d'oeuvres and plenty of tea!
