No 543: Real Wedding: Joanne and Luke

Sunday, June 6, 2010

For those of you who have already devoured Martha Stewart Weddings Summer 2010, this wedding feels like an old friend. To those of who you haven't, I hope you're as delighted to meet it as we were!

This San Francisco celebration tugged at my heartstrings from the moment I saw it; set at San Francisco's beautiful City Hall and German favorite Suppenküche, they were in my neighborhood! Joanne wore the most perfect Saks Fifth Avenue dress, found in my favorite vintage shop, Ver Unica, and Luke wore, "his only suit", a charming sunny seersucker. After their City Hall ceremony, they marched (marched!) past the San Francisco Opera House and through Hayes Valley to their wedding luncheon, a word I think is used far too infrequently.

It was a DIY affair from this fashion stylist and furniture maker, and their creative friends all helped. Luke's buddy Jeff Canham designed the joyful invitation suite along with the celebratory banner, and Joanne's friend, florist Naomi DeManana, assembled her gorgeous bouquet of peonies, garden roses, honeysuckle, ranunculus and poppies. The couple made tiny flags in lieu of escort cards, and the fabric used on the flags corresponded with the cheerful runner on their table. Guests dined on hearty German fare and rum cake by Sugar & Spike, and showered the newlyweds after their celebratory lunch!

Doesn't that sound like the perfect afternoon?

  2. Umm you have such good taste!!! I died when I saw this because it's so similar to the little celebration John and I have planned. We're getting married in San Francisco in late July and I can only hope it's half as cute as this!!
