No 522: Wedding Icon Grace Kelly

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Grace Kelly's wedding gown is one of the most stunning dresses ever created, and rightly so. It took six weeks and 35 MGM costumers to create, with costumer Helen Rose heading up the operation. Antique Valenciennes rose point lace, twenty five yards of silk taffeta, ninety eight yards of tulle and thousands of seed pearls came together to outfit this soon-to-be-princess.

Since most of us don't have a staff working around the clock to create a couture gown for our big day, we'll all just have to find some other way to look our very best. If Grace Kelly is your inspiration, look no further than J.Crew. Kate Armour of the Neo-Traditionalist is wearing the Taryn gown for her upcoming nuptials, and noted the striking similarities between this afforable J.Crew option and Kelly's gown in To Catch a Thief. If you're hoping to emulate Kelly's patrician elegance, follow Edith Head's lead and pair the Taryn with a rhinestone bib necklace (I spotted the one above on eBay). Keep your hair and makeup simple, et Voilà!

  3. How I heart you all! I hope I live up to everyone's excitement---ekkk. Now that I've chopped my hair I still haven't the slightest clue how I'll be accessorizing things. This rhinestone necklace makes me want to wear one again...sigh. The search continues!!
