No 228: the Scotch

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

As many of you know or have learned, John loves Scotch. This very bottle of Balvenie Doublewood was a gift I presented to him for hunting, skinning and butchering a neighbor's deer last Thanksgiving, and it's since become one of his favorite Scotches.

The Scotch bar will certainly include of bottle of this Balvenie in addition to the 25 year, one of John's most expensive impulse purchases for which we can thank the gentleman at Mt Vernon Spirits. A smokey single malt for the boys, likely a Lagavulin or Ardbeg and perhaps a cognac will round out the spirits, and of course, cigars will be given a place of honor. John was delighted when, probably a year ago or more, I showed him a beautiful Art Deco cart covered with scotch, artfully arranged boxes of cigars and bouquets of rich, blood-red roses. Now it seems the scotch cart will have to be included-John's not complaining.
