No 226: Real Wedding: Jordan and Javier

Monday, September 7, 2009

In honor of the all-American Labor Day holiday, I will be featuring an overseas wedding! This gorgeous affair, photographed by Susan Stripling, took place in the ancient Columbian city of Cartagena. The wedding took place at the Hotel Sofitel Santa Clara where my parents stayed last summer when they took their own romantic trip to Columbia; this gorgeous space was originally a convent built in the 15th century. The couple wanted their guests to enjoy Javier's native country and the beauty of this colonial city, so the focus at this reception was on the entertainment. Two classical guitarists were responsible for music before, during, and after the ceremony, while dancing after dinner was urged on by a salsa band, Hijos del Sol. As the recepient of many Columbian meals (my nanny growing up, Fanny, was Columbian), I can attest to the deliciousness of any dish they must have had. And that final photo-John and I agree, it's one of the most perfect wedding images. Gown by Monique Lhullhier, jewels by Suzy B.
